Funding Objection Handbook

Strategic Funding Appointment Setter, Lead Qualifier, Processor, SMS Agent Objections NQX-66

Purpose: honest, ready-to-use answers to the 36 objections funding teams hear most, grouped by topic.

When to use: any call, text or email where a merchant raises a concern. Every funding script links here.

Goal of the call: one outcome per objection: the merchant feels heard, gets a truthful answer, and the conversation moves to a clear next step (or ends politely).

Version: v1.0

Before you use this handbook

  • You know the three rules: no pricing or timing, no approval promises, no coaching
  • You know your campaign's approved claims (only those may be used)
  • You have the Product Guide open for product-specific questions

The method: Acknowledge, Answer, Advance

  1. Acknowledge. Show you heard the concern. "That's a fair question." "I understand."
  2. Answer honestly. Give the true answer in plain words, even if it is "I can't tell you that yet, and here's why."
  3. Advance. Suggest one clear next step, and accept "no" gracefully.

Why it works: merchants in this industry have heard every trick. Honesty is the thing they have not heard, and it stands out.

Never do this, in any answer: quote a rate, factor, fee, payment, amount or timeline; say "approved", "pre-approved" or "guaranteed"; call an advance a loan; say "no personal guarantee" or "won't affect your credit"; advise stopping payments to anyone; or suggest changing any answer or document.

Pricing and rates

1. "What's your rate?"

You: Fair question, and I'll be straight with you: I can't give you one yet. Anyone who quotes a rate before seeing your statements is guessing. Funders price based on your deposits, balances and current payments. Once your file is complete, any offer comes in writing with the full cost, and you decide.

2. "What will my payment be?"

You: That depends on the amount, the product and the funder, and I don't want to give you a number that turns out wrong. Every offer shows the payment and how often it's taken, in writing, before you sign anything.

3. "Just give me a ballpark."

You: I understand wanting a rough idea. If I gave you a ballpark, I'd be making it up, and you'd hold me to it. What I can do is get your file to the right funders so you see real numbers.

4. "Is this a loan? What's the interest?"

You: It depends on the product. A merchant cash advance isn't a loan: the funder buys a share of your future sales. A term loan or line of credit is a loan. Either way, the funder's written offer shows the full cost, and in some states a cost disclosure comes with it.

Approval

5. "Am I approved?"

You: Not yet, and I won't say yes until a funder does. What I can tell you is that you fit what the programs we work with look for, so it's worth submitting.

6. "What are my chances?"

You: I honestly can't put a number on it. What I can do is make sure your file is complete and accurate and goes only to funders that match your business. That's what gives a file its best shot.

7. "Another company said I'm pre-approved."

You: I can't speak for them. In this industry, nobody is truly approved until a funder has reviewed the statements and made a written offer. I'd rather be honest now than surprise you later.

Timing

8. "I need it today" or "Can I have it by Friday?"

You: I understand it's urgent. I can't promise a date because it depends on the funder and on how fast the file is complete. What I can promise is that we'll move quickly on our side. The fastest thing you can do is upload the documents tonight.

9. "Last time it took too long."

You: I'm sorry about that. Can you tell me where it got stuck? (Listen.) This time, let's get every document in at once, so nothing waits on a missing page.

Trust and spam

10. "I get ten calls a day about this."

You: I believe it. Here's what we do differently: we build one complete file and send it only to funders that match your business, so your information isn't spread everywhere.

11. "Is this a scam?"

You: Good that you ask. Here's how to protect yourself with anyone: don't trust a promise of approval before your statements are reviewed, read every cost and term in writing before you sign anything, and make sure you can reach the company at a real phone number and address. You can reach our office at (COMPANY PHONE) and see us at (COMPANY WEBSITE).

12. "Who are you with? Where are you calling from?"

You: I'm with (COMPANY NAME). We help business owners all over (MARKET) find the right funding.

Coach's note: how you answer location questions depends on the client. Use the client's approved wording. Never mention your own country.

13. "This is a waste of my time."

You: I don't want to waste it. Two quick questions will tell us both if this is worth it. If it isn't, I'll tell you straight away.

If they still want to end the call, thank them and end it.

14. "Am I talking to a robot?"

You: No, I'm a real person, (YOUR NAME), on the (COMPANY NAME) team.

If your campaign uses automated first messages, never claim a message was written by a person when it was not. Follow your campaign's disclosure rules.

Privacy

15. "Why do you need my Social Security number?"

You: Funders verify the owner's identity before making an offer, and some check credit. It goes through our secure application, not email, and only funders reviewing your file see it. Nothing is pulled without your written authorization.

16. "Why do you need my bank statements? I don't like uploading them."

You: That's a reasonable concern. Bank statements are how funders see your real cash flow; no funder makes an offer without them. That's why we use a secure upload link instead of email, and we only share your file with funders that match.

17. "Which funder will see my file?"

You: Your file goes only to funders that match your business, approved by our desk lead, and only with the permission you gave on the application. When an offer comes in, you'll see exactly who it's from in the written offer.

On the Narqix desk, never name funders before an offer unless a founder approved it.

Credit

18. "Don't pull my credit."

You: Nothing is pulled without your written OK. Many programs start with a soft check that doesn't affect your score. If any step would involve a hard inquiry, you'll know before it happens.

19. "My credit is bad."

You: Thanks for telling me. Some products, like cash advances, focus more on your business's deposits than your credit. Others need stronger credit. Let me ask a few questions and I'll tell you honestly which, if any, fit.

20. "Can you fix my credit fast?"

You: I can't promise fast results or a higher score, and nobody honest can. Our credit repair service reviews your reports and disputes items that are wrong, outdated or can't be verified. Accurate information can't be removed. If you'd like, the team can explain how it works.

Documents

21. "Can I just send screenshots?"

You: I'm sorry, funders only accept the PDFs from your bank's website or app. It protects you too, because it shows the statements are genuine. I can walk you through downloading them right now if you like.

22. "Why do you need this month too?" or "Another company didn't need all this."

You: This month's activity shows the funder what's happened since your last statement, and it usually saves a round of follow-up questions later. A complete file up front is what keeps things moving.

Stalls

23. "Just email me something."

You: Happy to. I'll send a short overview and the secure link now. So it doesn't get lost in your inbox, can we pick a time tomorrow for a quick ten-minute call?

24. "I need to talk to my partner (or spouse, or accountant)."

You: That's smart. Would it help if I sent a short summary you can share with them? And would a quick call with both of you be easier?

25. "Call me next month."

You: Of course. Is there a specific week that's better? I'll put it in my calendar and call then, not before.

Set the task for that exact week.

Alternatives and competition

26. "I'll ask my bank first."

You: You should. If your bank says yes, it's often the lowest-cost option. If they say no, or it takes too long, we're here. Would it help to have your documents ready either way?

27. "Another company offered me more."

You: Then it's worth reading their written offer carefully: the total repayment, the payment amount and frequency, and any fees. Choose what's right for your business. If you'd like us to see what our funders offer too, we can.

Never criticise another company.

28. "I already have an advance."

You: Thanks for telling me. That's very common. Funders will want to know the payment and how often it's taken, so let's note that now. Depending on your situation, more funding may or may not be the right step, and I'll be honest with you about that.

Existing debt and hardship

29. "Can you cut my advance payments in half?"

You: I can't promise any number. What we can do is review every advance and see whether our MCA Bailout program could lower your payment. If an option exists, you'll see the new payment and the total cost side by side before you decide. Sometimes a lower payment means a higher total cost, and you should know that up front.

30. "Should I stop paying my funder?"

You: I can't advise you on that. Stopping payments can have serious consequences under your contract. Please talk with a qualified professional, like an attorney, about your contract. I'd also like to have a manager speak with you.

Escalate to your lead and a founder the same day.

31. "I don't want more debt."

You: That's a fair decision, and I respect it. If anything changes, you can always reach us. Would you like us to check in later, or would you prefer we don't?

0% Business Credit Cards

32. "Will this hurt my credit?"

You: It can. Card applications usually involve hard inquiries, which can lower your score for a while. Each card usually needs a personal guarantee. I'd rather you hear that from me now.

33. "Is it really 0%?"

You: The 0% is a promotional rate set by the card issuer, and it ends after the promotional period. After that, the regular rate applies, so you need a plan to pay the balance before then. These are credit cards, not a loan or a line of credit.

After a decline

34. "Can you just try one more funder?"

You: I understand. I'll ask my desk lead whether there's a funder that matches your profile that we haven't tried. If not, I'd rather tell you honestly than send your information somewhere that can't help.

35. "What if I send different statements?"

You: We can only submit your real, complete statements from your bank. If you have another business account that's part of the business, we can look at that too, as long as it's the bank's own statements.

If the merchant suggests altered or someone else's statements, end that topic, note it word for word and escalate.

Fees

36. "Do you charge a fee?"

You: Good question. I never ask for or take any payment. For funding products, the full cost is shown in the funder's written offer before you sign. If a service has its own fee, such as credit repair or the card program, the company explains it in writing before anything starts, and you decide.

Coach's note: if an objection is not in this handbook, use the method anyway. Acknowledge it, answer only what you know is true, and advance to a next step. "I don't know, but I'll find out and call you back by 3 PM your time" is a great answer. Then do it.

After the call

Record every objection in the CRM in the merchant's words, with your response type and the result:

OBJECTION · (DATE TIME) · (YOUR NAME) Said: (THEIR WORDS) Handbook number: (NUMBER) Result: (MOVED FORWARD, CALLBACK SET, PAUSED, OPTED OUT, ESCALATED) Next: (ACTION) by (DATE TIME)

Your team lead reviews objection notes weekly to improve this handbook. If you hear a new one, post it in the team channel.

  1. Name the three steps of the method.
  2. A merchant asks for a ballpark rate. What is your answer?
  3. A merchant asks if they should stop paying a funder. What do you say and do?
  4. Which two facts must you always share about 0% cards?
  5. How do you answer when asked where you are calling from?
