Video and Motion

10 min

For Narqix video editors and motion designers working on ads, short-form, long-form, explainers and brand films. Use this page as your working checklist to deliver video to the Narqix standard.

Track: Specialist · Role: Video Editor, Motion Designer · Time to complete: 10 min

Definition of done

  • The video does the one job written in the brief (stop the scroll, explain the offer, drive a booking)
  • Every agreed length, aspect ratio and version is exported
  • Captions are accurate, timed and burned in or delivered as a file, as agreed
  • Audio is clean and leveled; music, voice and sound effects are licensed for the client's use
  • The project file, source footage and assets are organized and saved in client-owned storage
  • The client approved the final in writing

Quality checklist

Story and structure
  • Script or edit outline approved before the full edit starts
  • Strong hook in the first 2 to 3 seconds for social, first 10 seconds for long-form
  • One message per video; the call to action is clear and appears on screen
  • Pacing fits the platform: tight for short-form, room to breathe for brand films
  • Makes sense with the sound off (most social viewers start muted)
Picture
  • Correct aspect ratio and resolution for each placement
  • Text and key visuals kept inside the safe zones, clear of platform buttons and captions
  • Consistent color across shots; skin tones natural
  • No jump cuts or flash frames unless intended
  • Brand fonts, colors and logo used as the brand guide defines
  • Motion feels deliberate: consistent easing and timing, no default bounces unless the brand calls for them
Sound
  • Dialogue clear, with background noise reduced
  • Loudness consistent across the video, around minus 14 LUFS integrated for online platforms unless the client specifies otherwise
  • No clipping or sudden volume jumps between clips
  • Music ducks under speech
  • Pronunciation checked for names, brands, places and acronyms
Text and captions
  • Captions checked word by word against the audio
  • Names, numbers, prices, phone numbers and URLs correct
  • Required disclaimers on screen long enough to read

Pre-launch checklist (before final delivery)

  • Watched the full export once on a phone and once on a large screen, with sound on and off
  • Every version and size exported with the naming pattern YYYY-MM-DD_Client_Video_Ratio_Length_v01
  • Thumbnail or cover frame chosen and exported where needed
  • License records saved for music, stock footage, fonts and sound effects
  • Release forms on file for every recognizable person filmed for the client
  • Written consent on file for any voice or likeness generated with AI
  • Project file packaged with all media linked, so another editor can open it
  • Final files uploaded to the client's storage, link shared in the delivery message

Coach's note: for ads, deliver the hook as a separate set of variations. Three different first 3 seconds on the same body often beat three completely different videos, and they let the ads manager learn what stops the scroll. Agree this with the client at scoping so it is planned work, not a free extra.

Access and security rules

  • Raw footage, project files and exports live in the client's storage. Keep a working copy on your work device only during the project; delete it at close.
  • Music, stock footage and sound effects are licensed under the client's account or license, never your personal subscription, unless the license explicitly covers client work.
  • Voice and likeness: never clone or imitate a real person's voice or face without that person's written consent. Never make AI-generated people appear to be real customers or staff.
  • Unreleased campaigns and products are confidential. No sharing in portfolios or social posts without written permission through Narqix.

Common mistakes

Open the list
  • Starting the edit before the script or outline is approved.
  • A slow logo intro that wastes the first 3 seconds of a social video.
  • Text placed where the platform's buttons or captions will cover it.
  • Captions with spelling mistakes or wrong names.
  • Music that is "royalty free" but not licensed for commercial or ad use.
  • Delivering one aspect ratio when the campaign needs three.
  • Losing media links, so the project cannot be reopened later.

Red flags to escalate

Red flagLevelWhat to do
Client asks you to use copyrighted music, film clips or another brand's content without a licenseP2Decline, offer licensed options, inform Delivery Lead
Footage shows a recognizable person with no releaseP2Flag before delivery
Request to clone a real person's voice or face without consentP2Decline, inform Delivery Lead
A video with a wrong price, claim or contact detail is already liveP1Alert client and Delivery Lead immediately
Video claims that cannot be proven (guaranteed results, fake testimonials)P2Decline, inform Delivery Lead
Footage or files lost or corruptedP2Stop, check backups, inform Delivery Lead

Never do this: never present actors, AI-generated people or staged scenes as real customers giving real testimonials. It misleads viewers and can break advertising law.
